Attaya, Paul Victor Sr.
Paul Victor ("Vic") Attaya, age 77, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Born October 10, 1932, he was the youngest of three children born to Charles Benedict Attaya and Lillian Fink Attaya. He is survived by his wife Margaret Tisdale Attaya, two sons Paul Victor Attaya Jr. or Auburn, NY and David Holland of Charlotte, NC, three daughters, Kimberly Attaya White (Mrs. Jerry) of Evans, GA, Kim Holland Crianza (Mrs. Michael) of Ormond Beach, FL and Kay Sontag of Waterford, MI. Six grandchildren, Nathan White and Lauren White of Evans, GA, Aubrey Sontag Oslund (Mrs. Steve) of Wyoming, Rebecca Sontag of Waterford, MI, Valerie Cassellman of Auburn, NY, and Rachael Cassellman of Charlotte, NC. One great-grandson, Bryce Hodge of Wyoming. He is also survived by one brother, Charles B. Attaya, Jr. and one sister, Dian Attaya Tangolics, both of Phoenix, AZ. Vic was first a Marine, a member of the First Marine Divisions Recon Company in Korea. He retired as First Sgt from the 2nd Bn 75th Ranger Regiment. During his career he served in the Army in Special Forces, then as a member of the Vietnamese Rangers (Biet Dong Quan). He was the first Sgt with the 2/75th and retired from Ft. Lewis Washington in 1975. His military service awards include The Silver Star, for Gallantry in Action, The Purple Heart – 5th Award, Commendation Medal with "V" Device for Valor – 3d Award, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Gold Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Combat Action Ribbon, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist's Wings, Drill Sergeant Badge, Vietnamese Ranger Badge, Nine Campaign and Service Medals, 5 Unit Citations. Vic was instrumental in starting Honor Guards in four different states. His passion was assuring that any eligible veteran who desired it would have full military honors. His Honor Guard did not refuse any family who asked for and eligible veteran if the schedule permitted it, within a fifty mile radius. He was a member of The VFW Post 445, American Legion Post 147, DAV, Marine Corps League, Korean War Recon Marines. Vic loved his family and his Church, St. James Episcopal. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the University of Miami Hurricanes sports teams. He was also a member of the James Island Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to a charity of your choice. Two of his favorites were Smile Train (PO Box 96208, Washington, DC 20090-6208) and Water Missions International (PO Box 31258, Charleston, SC 29417). A private Eucharist will be held at St. James Episcopal
Church. A memorial visitation will take place from 12:00pm to 2:00pm Saturday, March 6th at The American Legion, Post 147 Folly Road. A Memorial Service with Full Military Honors will follow at 2:00pm
