Frank Hamilton Guerard was the son of Arthur Gordon Rose Guerard and Callie Elizabeth Hamilton Guerard. His father was an engineer and the family lived in several phosphate mining towns in Florida after moving from Arthur and Callie's native state of North Carolina. They settled in the village of Boca Grande, FL on Gasparilla Island in Lee Co. when Frank was about 2 years old. His father ran the power plant there on the south end of the island. Frank was called "Frankie" by his family, which included 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Family history records that he was a quiet boy who loved to read and to read aloud to his brothers, sisters, and friends. He was an excellent student who won numerous awards for his spelling skills. Family and friends remembered him as a loving boy who was polite and rather shy with a sense of humor. His younger brother Franz adored him and followed him everywhere. He died suddenly of "Landry's ascending paralysis", a virulent form of Guillain-Barre syndrome, in the same year as his father after being taken ill on the way home to Florida after a visit to his grandparents and other family in Henderson Co., North Carolina. He died at Arcadia General Hospital in DeSoto Co. FL and was buried beside his father in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia. He and his father Arthur were moved to Garden of Memories in Tampa, FL 20 years later when Frank's mother passed away and were buried there beside her.
