Bruce was a member of Portland United Methodist Church, and retired from General Motors after 40 years of service. He was an avid Spartan fan (especially basketball) as well as lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #4090. He served his country in the U.S. Navy (1952-1956) during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia; his siblings, Keith, Kenneth, Dale, Robert Ackerson, and Allyn Jay Ackerson; and a sister, Lucinda Canfield; surviving are his children, Mark (Sandra) Ackerson and Melissa (Jerry Pelak) Ackerson; his granddaughter, Kerri (Steve Grabowski) Ackerson.
The Funeral Service will be conducted by Pastor Letisha Bowman at 11am, Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the Portland United Methodist Church, 310 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will be in North Eagle Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post #4090. The family will receive friends 4-7pm, Tuesday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Eagle Cemetery Association.
