Peter P. Palmintera, 82, of Monessen, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the home of his daughter in Ohio. A son of the late Sylvester and Maria Pascoitti Palmintera, he was born in Monessen on Oct. 5, 1920.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorette Martin Palmintera, on Oct. 15, 1986; and two sisters, Sarah Pallini and Nedda Nelson.

He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church of Monessen and the former St. Cajetan Catholic Church, where he was an usher for 35 years, and the Monessen Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, where he served on the board of directors for six years.

A lifelong resident of Monessen, Mr. Palmintera retired in 1962 from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company.

He was a 13 1/2-year U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served as a master sergeant in the European and Pacific theaters, Normandy Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge.

Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. The members of Monessen Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 will meet in the funeral home Friday to hold services at 7:30 p.m.
