Between 1869 and 1889, Zachariah and Mary, had seven children who grew into adulthood: Hulda Brunk Thomas (1869-1916), Harry Brunk (1872-1931), Mary Jane Brunk Cotterill (1875-1907), Bertha Brunk Huelsmann (1877-1909), Laura Emma Brunk Friend Price (1882-1920), Elmer Robert Brunk (1887-1950) and Lena Gertrude Brunk Thompson (1889-1919).
Mary lived nine years after her husband Zachariah died on October 24, 1918. Mary saw five of her children, all her daughters, die in her lifetime. Hulda, Mary Jane, Bertha, Laura Emma, and Lena Gertrude died before Mary’s death on December 23, 1927. The only children that survived Mary’s death were her two sons, Harry and Elmer. During Mary’s lifetime she had over 30 grandchildren. Many of them lived close to her and Zachariah and they each enjoyed the opportunity to know their grandchildren and watch them grow.
