Billy Bully Hayes was born on July 4th, 1829 in Cuyahoga County, Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He died on March 31st, 1877 in Hawaii at just 47 years old. He was a pirate in the Pacific Ocean between California, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caroline Islands. He married Emily Mary Butler in the year of 1865. His ships were the "Rona", "Lenora", "Kosrae", and the "Lotus". He was a famous enough pirate to be portrayed by actor Tommy Lee Jones in the 1983 film, "Nate & Hayes". He was a pirate for 11 years from 1866-1877. In his career he was a pirate, ship's captain, trader, and blackbirder. He had a longer career as a pirate than most pirates. There have even been various books written about his legend & lore. On March 31st, 1877 the ship's cook Peter Radeck or Dutch Pete, responding to threat's from Bully Hayes, shot him with a revolver, which killed Bully Hayes and threw him overboard into the ocean near Hawaii.
