Death: Nov. 4, 2001
San Diego County
California, USA

My father, Darrel Guy Wimer, was born September 19, 1927, in Eagleville Township, Modoc County, CA, the eldest child and only son of Lyle Dorane and Ruby Woodruff Wimer. He had two younger sisters, my aunts Phyllis and Zelda. (Only Aunt Zelda is still alive.) He also served briefly in the Navy in WWII; he went in at age 17 in 1944. He was married briefly in 1952 but it was annulled; in August 1956 he met my mother, Janice; they married in October. They remained together for the rest of their lives; she died of pancreatic cancer in 1998 after 41 years of marriage. (Mom was previously married so I have two older half sisters, Susan and Sharon.) Dad died in November 2001 of heart failure; however, I believe it was mainly brought on by a “broken” heart since he never got over Mom’s death. I was once told that I was one of the only two people he loved most in the world, even though I had a younger sister, Barbara, from my parents’ marriage. (I think he loved me the most because I was his first-born.) Both my parents were cremated and I have their ashes with me.
Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.

Sorry I'm late remembering you on the day you died, Dad--but I definitely thought of you that day. I think of you and Mom virtually every day. Five years you've been gone now, nine years for her, and it'll always seem like yesterday, even if it ends up fi...(Read more)

You always loved to wear cowboy boots and a cowboy hat, Dad, so here's one for you. Your birthday was a month ago, would have been 79. I know you couldn't stay because you missed Mom too much, but I'm glad you stayed as long as you could. Even at that, I'...(Read more)
