Working for hardware and plumbing business in his home town growing up helped him train for life. Guy married Rose Roth of Strawn on Aug. 12,1914. They moved to Sibley in October and Guy ran the hardware store for Harlan and Myers. He continued there until 1922 when he purchased the store. He also served as the village plumber.
Ruth and Guy had a daughter Darlene (Ritter) and a son Wilbur who retired as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army. There were three grandchildren. Ruth died in March, 1926.
On Nov. 13, 1926 Guy married Jessie Blackburn. Jessie died Dec. 26, 1970.
Guy had to vacate the first hardware site in 1945. He moved down the street and continued beyond 1978. He stocked things like wash boilers, milk pails, stove pipe with lots of elbows, hard coal burners, several makes of coal and cob fired cook stoves, and, yes, even windmills.
Guy took an acitve part in the town concerns. His store was collection site for water and electricity bills for many years. He served as Sibley Village treasurer from 1932 until 1978+.
