Norma Louise Kucera Evers, 87, passed away
Feb. 1, 2011, in Pullman from causes related to osteoporosis.
She was born in Spokane on Jan. 6, 1924, to Louis and Vera Gray Kucera. After graduating from North Central High School in Spokane in 1942, she attended Kinman Business School, then worked as a secretary in Spokane. She and Marvin D. Evers, the agriculture teacher in Dayton, were married May 29, 1948, in Coeur d'Alene. She lived in Dayton for the next 58 years, relocating to Pullman in 2006.
A gifted musician, Norma played the piano, organ, and cello; and she studied operatic voice as a young woman. She was an organist at the First Congregational Church in Dayton for over 50 years and later played the piano Sunday mornings at Bishop Place Senior Living in Pullman. She also enjoyed gardening, swimming, water skiing, and canoeing. She was a member of the Benevolentia Club in Dayton for over 50 years. She loved cocker spaniels, thunderstorms, gin rummy and the New York Times Sunday crossword.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (and Doug) Meyer of Pullman and Mary Sue Evers of Beaverton, Ore.; one sister, Patricia Mallery of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Dayton on Friday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Dayton Congregational Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family.
