Enlisted for 12 months' service on 9/7/1861 at Oxford, Granville County, NC., he was mustered into Company G, 30th North Carolina Infantry as a Private.
Absent, sick, on Muster-In Roll, dated 10/8/1861.
Absent, Sick Furlough, on Nov & Dec 1861 Roll.
Reenlisted 3/1862 for 3 years' service.
Wounded 6/27/1862 Gaines' Mill, VA.; returned to duty 3/30/1863.
Hospitalized for Debilitas 4/20 - 5/26/1863.
Promoted to Corporal 8/8/1863.
Killed In Action in the Battle of the Wilderness, VA.

The 30th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina, in October, 1861. The men were raised in the following counties: Sampson, Warren, Brunswick, Wake, Nash, Granville, Duplin, Edgecombe, Moore, and Mecklenburg.
