Willard Archie, 82, of Galveston departed this life to be in the arms of the Lord on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2008, at Bay Area Funeral Parlor, 5410 FM 1765 in Texas City, Texas with the Rev. Norman Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. The family will receive visitors at Bay Area Funeral Parlor in Texas City on Thursday, October 9, 2008, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Mr. Archie was born August 19, 1926, to Ida and Virgil Archie in Huntsville, Texas. He was educated in Mount Olive ISD in Huntsville and attended Sam Houston High School there. After moving to Galveston he joined the U.S. Army earning his honoable discharge in 1952. Returning home he began working on the waterfront and cotton mill. Joining in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Dorothy Lee Wright he went on to raise his family. He was a member of the Lions Club of Galveston.

Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of sixty-two years Dorothy Lee Archie; sisters Eloise Bozeman and Vergie Deere; brothers Joe Bailey Archie, Nora Archie, Robert Earl Archie, Chuck Archie and Roger Archie; grandson, Felton Jones, III and great granddaughter Christaline-Delanie Faison; left to mourn his memories are his daughter Idalyn Archie Roy (Joe) of Texas City; granddaughter Jeannine Jones-Werdlow (Jerrod) of Texas City; great grandchildren Rashard, Kansas, Kayla, Micaiah, Allen of Texas City; sisters Iantha Jones of Huntsville, Texas, Enola McCoy of Vallejo, California, Georgina Thomas of Houston, Texas and brother Lewis Archie of Los Angeles, California; very special nieces Mary Katherine and June: very special former son-in-law, Felton Jones, Jr. of Galveston and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
