Death: 1887

Civil War Union Officer. This Boston, Massachusetts resident enlisted into the United States Volunteers on January 19, 1864 at the rank of Captain. He was assigned to Company F, 4th Massachusetts Cavalry on January 27, 1864. The captain and his cavalry regiment campaigned throughout Florida, South Carolina and Virginia after mustering into the volunteer service. The war ending battle at High Bridge, Virginia (April 6, 1865) was the last significant engagement this Bostonian entered. He was honorably mustered out November 14, 1865 in Richmond, Virginia.

Baker was brevetted lieutenant colonel, U.S.V., on March 13, 1865, and received a promotion to full major, U.S.V., on April 23, 1865.

This Union officer lies at rest at the margin of Oakwood's Confederate Cemetery.
