Alvin J. "Sonny" Corby, 67, of Newton Township, Clarks Summit, died Thursday at home. His wife is the former Diane J. Cruser. The couple celebrated 47 years of marriage July 7.
Born March 5, 1940, in Falls, son of the late Alvin and Regina Deubler Corby., he was educated in Falls schools and was an Air Force veteran. Before retirement in 2002, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the construction field.
Al will be remembered as a fun-loving guy. He was quick with a joke and readily put smiles on the faces of everyone he met. Al was a family man and a homebody. He loved to plant flowers from seed and to cook and bake, especially pies. He was always quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Also surviving are two daughters, Diane Teevan and husband, James, Olyphant; and Cindy Lou Ritter and husband, Tom, Mount Cobb; four sons, Alvin J. Corby Jr., Texas; Ace Kenneth Corby, San Antonio, Texas; Jesse J. Corby, Simpson; and Lance R. Corby, Lake Winola; two sisters, Ardella Keller and Frances Wilson and husband, Ronald, both of Ashland, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, James Corby., in 1992; and two sisters, Betty Rodney and Eleanor Lisembe.
CAUSE OF DEATH: Self inflicted gun shot.
