Missy was a white and tan (although I always considered it to be red) Welsh Corgi that was given to my husband George and I when she was about 2 years old. She was very sick and was going to die if we did not take her and get her proper health care. We nursed her back to health, and through the hours of feeding and caring for her, giving her medicication, I really bonded with her. I always said that she was the spirit of my deceased sweet Irish Mother; a feisty, obese redhead who had a very onry spirit. I KNEW that Missy was ment to be my dog. We nursed her back to health and gave her a good life, but we are both hurting so much right now watching her die. We think she had a stroke. It is so hard and we are hurting so much especially since we just lost our black lab/collie mix, Buddy, just over 2 years ago. That is the thing about being parents of animals, of dogs. They die way before you do and it hurts so much.
We had a big nickname that I made up for her, because she was a pure Welsh Corgi and George and I had never owned a purebred before. And Missy had such an attitude that she was better than everyone, so I made up the title: Her Royal Highness, Missy MacDoogles, The Duchess of Wales. She just died and I miss her already. I love you Mommy; you were a good dog. You were more than a dog; you were my Mother's spirit, you had her cinnamon colored eyes. I will never forget them looking up at me, or YOU. Your Mommy and Daddy love you so much. Good night, sweet Duchess.
