|Death: ||Feb. 5, 1988|
Duke was a small apricot and white terrier. We had him for 15 wonderful years but he lives on in our hearts.
My wife worked for an insurance company and one evening an agent brought her a package which she thought was fish as he was a fisherman. He had called earlier telling her he was bringing her something. It turned out to be this scrawny little fella. He was so skinny with long legs that looked like 5 tails. As he grew older and put on some weight he was beautiful.
He was found by an elderly couple that couldn't keep him and had him tied outside with a large rope that was almost as big as he was but at least they were trying to keep him safe. The agent being a dog lover couldn't leave him there. He already had 3 dogs of his own but knew he would find a home for him. That is how Duke came to live with us.
While he was with us we bought an airplane and Duke sure loved to fly. When we went to the airport he would head for the hanger and just couldn't wait until we pulled the plane out so he could get inside. He would jump up and down until we picked him up and put him inside. That plane couldn't go anywhere without him. Duke went to many air shows and hot air balloon shows with us.
Duke loved to travel and was always ready to go. He liked to sit on the dash of our motor home and look out. That was the way with all "our boys". He traveled to Albuquerque to the air shows and balloon rally, to Mississippi and Florida to the beaches. He went to Myrtle Beach and loved the mountains of WV.
When he died he was in an Armstrong incubator with his mom and dad at his side petting him. He was buried in a baby coffin with his sweaters, blankets, toys and pictures of him and family and a letter with his life story.
When you adopt a dog you are repaid many times over. The love you receive from them can't be explained, all they ask for is your love in return.
Duke was a special "boy" and will always be loved and remembered. We will see Duke and our other "boys" someday and have a glorious reunion. They are all waiting for us at "Rainbow Bridge". They know how much we love them all.
A special thank you to Judy & Becky for sponsoring Duke's memorial page. Your kindness is appreciated.
