Masaru Abe, age 93, the second son of Katsuji and Ito Abe, was graduated from Reedley High School in 1934. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1941, and was a Platoon Sgt. Abe served in World War II with the 100th Battalion 442 Infantry Regiment in the European Combat theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and various other unit citation and campaign medals.

Masaru enjoyed coaching the Reedley Manjettes for many years. He was also a member of the Nisei Farmers League, the VFW, American Legion and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Masaru was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tamotsu and Charles and his wife Masaichi; sisters Alice and Fujiye. He is survived by a brother Joe; sisters Helen and Miyo; his wife Sadie; sons Mitchell and his wife Lynn, and Curtis and his wife Marina; grandchildren Aiko and Kenzo; and many nieces and nephews.
