Father Felix (Bronislaus) Bak was born in Detroit, MI on January 15, 1923. Felix entered the novitiate and received the Franciscan habit on September 13, 1942. He professed his first vows on September 15, 1943 at St. Joseph Cupertino Novitiate, Ellicott City, Maryland. His Solemn Profession was pronounced on September 15, 1946 at St. Bonaventure Novitiate in Lake Forest, IL. He was ordained on July 24, 1949 in Fribourg, Switzerland where he completed his theological studies with the baccalaureate and licentiate degrees in theology. Several years later, he was awarded the doctorate in sacred theology from the University of Fribourg. He celebrated his first solemn Mass on December 28, 1952 at his home parish, St. Hedwig, Detroit, Michigan. In the course of his years of ministry in the Province and Order, Fr, Felix taught at St. Mary Minor Seminary in Crystal Lake, IL; Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, CA; and served as an associate Pastor at St. Hedwig Parish in Detroit, MI. In addition to the above, Fr. Felix was a confessor at St. Peter's basilica in Vatican City for several years. Due to his declining health condition, he resided in Marybrook Manor, Livonia, MI. He lived the remaining years of his life in this health care facility. Father Felix was summoned by Sister Death on Monday, December 16, 2002 shortly before the Noon hour. He was 79 years old at the time of his death, and in the 53rd year of his priesthood. Father Felix will long be remembered for his priestly zeal, his care of souls, and his love for classical and sacred music. He rests in Saint Hedwig Cemetery and Mausoleum, Dearborn Heights, MI.
