Gary was a native of Kingsport and lived most of his life in Johnson City before moving to Rogersville in 1993.
He was a son of the late Edsel William and Helen Morrison Carden.
Gary was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War and later in the Tennessee Army National Guard.
He retired from dietary services at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, following twenty years of service.
Gary was a Baptist and a member of the V.F.W. , Morristown.
He enjoyed music, dancing and old western movies.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a nephew, David "Tuffy" Carden.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Carden, of the home; his daughter, Kim Eggers and husband Brian, Johnson City; his granddaughter, Savannah Eggers, Johnson City; his brother, H.D. Carden and wife Brenda, Johnson City; one nephew, Ron Wilcox, Atlanta, Georgia; one niece, Tammy McGee and husband Chris, Rogersville.
The funeral service was conducted Sunday, December 11, 2011, with the Rev. Jim Ginley officiating. The family received friends prior to the service. The graveside committal service was be held Monday, December 12, 2011, in Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Boone Dam V.F.W. #4933.
