KINGSPORT - Betty Ruth Payne Hawkins, Kingsport died Friday, September 5, 2003 at Wellmont Bristol Hospice House.

She was a member of Preaching Christ Church. She taught school at Rogersville City school for more than 40 years. She was a former member of the Hawkins County Crewettes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Margaret Altom Payne.

She is survived by her daughter, Traci Lynn Wheatley and son-in-law, Evangelist Roger Wheatley; two step grandchildren, Lee Wheatley and Ceronna Wheatley; brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Madeline Payne, Kingsport; a niece, Teresa Nielsen and husband, Paul Nielsen, Ft. Worth, Texas; a great niece, Nicole Nielsen; two great nephews, Kyler and Spencer Nielsen; special cousins, Jim, Annette and Jim Pyne, Jr.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 7, 2003 at Colboch-Price Funeral Home with Evangelist Roger Wheatley and Anna Mae Denton officiating. Graveside services were held Monday, September 8, 2003 at Highland Cemetery.
