In 1870, John and Nancy lived at Snow Hill, and he worked as a merchant and maintained a planting operation on his farm. Between 1868 and the early 1870s, John purchased the farm of his brother in Union Parish Louisiana. It is not known if John lived there for a few years in the early 1870s, but by 1875 he and Nancy lived in Robertson County Texas. By 1880, they had settled in Navarro County Texas. John and Nancy died within a few months of each other in 1881.
