Services were held on Thursday, May 6, 1999 at 2pm in the Radar Funeral Home Chapel in Longview, Texas. Brother Leon Bahn of the Eastman Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiated. Mr. Ramsey was born in Sherman, Texas on Rusk Street near downtown. His family moved to Dexter, Texas where he attended school until it consoldated with Whitesboro, Texas in the early 1950s.

Mr. Ramsey joined the United States Army where he was based out of Barksdale Airforce Base in Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana. There he met his first wife, Fay, and had two sons, Lloyd and Kyle. While in the Service, he was in Germany for 18 months. He moved to Longview, Texas after he left the Army with an Honorable Discharge where he went to work for R.G. LeTourneau, Inc as a torch cutter.

In the late 1970s, Mr. Ramsey and his wife divorced. He later met Judy Duplissey, who also had two children from a previous marriage, Marty and Tina. They married on November 15, 1976 in Longview, Texas. Less than a year later, Jimmy, Judy and Jerry's third child (bringing a total of five children) was born.

Mr. Ramsey had a very healthy life until he started his fight with cancer in 1997. After enduring three surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation over a period of two years, Mr. Ramsey lost his battle at 5:55pm CST on May 3, 1999.
