Howes Crowell was born to Howes Crowell and Roxanna Howes
in Barnstable,Massachusetts.
In an old letter, in my possession, it mentioned that he was a hard worker. Howes and Melissa King were happy newly weds in April 1841. They had two little children, Georgianna & William born in 1842 and 1843. Sadly Howes and both the children died in Nauvoo, Illinois leaving Melissa broken hearted to mourn their loss.Their was some pressure on her to leave Nauvoo and return to Boston. But she chose to stay with the Saints.
In 1993 phone conversation with Earl Wallace, SLC...he stated from notes made by Howes Crowell Wallace,son of Melissa and her 2nd husband,George Benjamin Wallace, "Joseph Smith, the prophet was an intimate friend of Howes and Melissa and was called into their home and gave Howes a blesing before he died."
Howes is a 2nd great, grand-uncle to me through his marriage to Melissa King.
In July 2012 I located the property where Howes & Melissa lived in Nauvoo, Illinois. It was just with-in a block or so of Joseph & Emma Smith's Mansion House. Since Joseph lived so near, it is no surprise that Melissa called upon her neighbor and dear friend to bless her husband.
