Valfred "Val" (Olsen) Beacom, 67, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Hartington, died Sept. 18, 1996, at her home.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 27, 1996, at Grace Community Church in Tempe, Ariz.

Valfred (Olsen) Beacom was born to Bill and Alice Olsen in Hartington in 1929. The Olsen ancestors homesteaded in the Paragon community and were charter members of Paragon Lutheran Church. Mrs. Beacom was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. She graduated from Hartington High School in 1945, and then attended business college in Sioux City, Iowa, and worked for the Sioux City school district for 26 years. She worked for the Scottsdale, Ariz. school district for 14 years before retiring in 1984.

Mrs. Beacom is survived by her husband, James, Mesa; a daughter, Cheryl Lewis, Gilbert, Ariz.; a son, Dana Beacom, Plano, Texas; a granddaughter, Lara Holst, Mazeppa, Minn.; a grandson, Taylor Beacom, Seattle, Wash.; a great grandson, Brady Holst, Mazeppa, Minn.; a brother, Duane Olsen, Elk Point, S.D.; Leroy Olsen, Sioux City, Iowa; and Franklin Olsen, Hartington. She is also survived by Maurice Olsen, Norfolk; and Art and Helen Swan, Hartington.
