WILLIAM G. ZIEMER (d. 1957)

Ziemer, Retired Clothier, Dies
William G. Ziemer, 71, retired clothier, former bank cashier and long active
in church choir singing, died Wednesday morning at Mapelcrest sanatorium,
Whitelaw. The family home is at 1902 Western Ave.
Mr. Ziemer had operated Ziemer’s Clothiers, 1308 Washington St. for 21 years,
retiring in 19__. The business was founded by an uncle, the late William Ziemer,
in 1900..(2 lines underinked)…took over the business.
He was born June 4, 1886, at Montpelier, Kewaunee County, son of the late Carl
and Ottilie Radtke Ziemer. He married Ruby Kuecker at Manitowoc May 25, 1914.
In his youth he as employed as a railway mail clerk and for 24 years was assistant
cashier at the American Exchange Bank.
Mr. Ziemer, aside from his business activities, found time for other interests,
among them a desire to sing. For more than a half century he sang each Sunday in
the choir section of Wesley Methodist Church. He joined the choir when 17 where
his father sang before him. He had seen nine pastors of the church come and go.
Mr. Ziemer was a charter member of the Manitowoc County chapter of the society
for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America
Inc., and a member of the chorus of the chapter. He served nearly seven years as
a member of selective Service Board of District No. ?.
Surviving him are his wife; three sons, Charles of Manitowoc, Paul of Green Bay
and William Jr. of Madison; a brother, Hugo of Denmark; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at ? p.m. Saturday at Wesley Methodist Church. The Rev.
Donald P. Stannard will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday until
10:30 a.m. Saturday when the casket will be taken to the church where the body
will lie in state until the hour of service.
