John married Margaret Evans Bridgewater, 1 February, 1855 in Perry County, Illinois, daughter of Andrew and Rebecca Bridgewater. Margaret Evans Bridgewater was born 30 June, 1837 in Adams County, Illinois, died 25 January, 1913 and is buried in IOOF Cemetery, Duquoin, Perry County, Illinois.
Margaret married (1) John H. Yancey 1 February, 1855 and (2) John Jeremiah in 1867.

1) Rebecca Yancey, born 30 June, 1857 in Williamson County or Madison County, Illinois; died 08 October, 1934 in Duquoin, Perry County, Illinois. She married Walter Stanhouse, Sr. 28 August, 1876 in Perry County, Illinois.
2) Rachel Yancey, born 25 April 1859. Rachel married George Popham. George and Rachel lived on Park Street in Duquoin, Illinois.
3) Josephine Yancey born 17 February, 1860. Josephine died as a child and
4) George A. Yancey, born 05 November, 1861. George died as a child and is buried in IOOF Cemetery, Duquoin, Illinois.
John Yancey was a private in Company C, 81st Illinois Infantry per History of Randolph, Monroe and Perry Counties, Illinois, published in 1883, page, 223. Letters still in existence today were written by John Yancey to his wife Margaret E. (Bridgewater) Yancey while he was in Vicksburg, Mississippi during the Civil War.
John H. Yancey died from Smallpox and is buried in Vicksburg, Mississippi
