Ozzie served as a Marine for 33 years. Ozzie was awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation with two stars. He served as a Marine engineer in the First Engineer Battalion at Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. Ozzie retired in 1975 and he and Hallie moved to Reno, Nevada. Ozzie spent much of his time restoring a collection of Mercedes cars and traveling to Gull Wing Group conventions. He served as president of the Gull Wing Group International for eight years.
Ozzie is survived by his son, Kurt E. vom Orde (partner, Billie Mann) of Chapel Hill, NC; his daughters, Alice A. vom Orde of Waterville, ME and Lisa E. Woodard of Port St. Lucie, FL; five grandchildren, Jesse Woodard, Aaron Woodard, Lorraine Woodard, Rachel vom Orde and Carson vom Orde; brother-in-law, Ret. Col. Alan W. Jones; family members, Nan Haines, Alan Haines, Wendy Haines, Alan W. Jones III, Kate Watts, Steve Jones, Kay Hayford, Firelin Jones, William McCormick, Flora McCormick, Delinda Mix and Joseph Mix . Ozzie was predeceased by his wife, Hallie vom Orde and sister-in-law, Lynn M. Jones.
Ozzie will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on May 25, 2010 at 3 pm
