He was born in Creston, Iowa on February 18, 1929 to Carl and Gladys Vert.
In 1949 he married Donna Edwards, and together they raised 3 children on the south side of Des Moines.
He was an avid fan of sprint car racing, and over a span of 25 years, he spent most Saturday nights at the Knoxville raceway.
He is survived by his wife Donna; his children, Richard Vert (Kathy) of Des Moines, Linda Marks of Des Moines, Leanna (Dwight) Loomis of Carlisle, 4 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Glenna and his brother Marshall.
His wishes were to have no services, but memorials may be sent to Mercy Hospice of Des Moines in his honor.
