CAPT HALVOR THOMPSON

WELL KNOWN VESSEL CAPTAIN PASSES AWAY
Halvor Thompson, well known vessel captain and a resident of this city since
the early seventies, passed away in death at his home, 803 North Eighth street,
yesterday afternoon after having been confined to his bed but a few days. The
captain had enjoyed robust health until a year ago last November when he
sustained injuries by falling from a tree which he was in the act of trimming
near his home, the injuries causing his steady decline. The decedent was born
in Norway, October 3, 1849, and began his career as a sailor and navigator on
the ocean when but fourteen years old. At the age of twenty-four he came to
this country and direct to this city, following the lakes as captain of his own
ships until about ten years ago when he sold his last vessel, the Francis Miner,

since when he has led a retired life, his wife having passed away about the same

time.
The deceased is survived by four daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. J.W.
Patterson and Mrs. Robert Siegler of Chicago, Mrs. George Chatham of LaCrosse,
Miss Hilda Thompson of Milwaukee, Theodore Thompson of Ludington and Gust J.
Thompson of Kalamazoo, Mich. Seven grand children also survive. The funeral
will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock from the William Frazier under-
taking parlors and the remains will be placed at rest at Evergreen cemetery,
Rev. Espeseth conducting the services.
