Darlene's 10x great-grand-father.

~GOD BLESS THE PIONEERS~

Nicholas was born in
Hertfordshire, England.

He married Elizabeth Charles
(possibly Carles),
who was born abt 1607 in England.

He became very wealthy in America.

According to the book:
"Pioneers of Massachusetts ....
Nicholas, Watertown, in court
on 6 MAR 1637-38. Sold his house
and lands 23 JULY 1645, wife Elizabeth;
children Joseph b. 24 MAR 1640, and
daughter Elizabeth b. 5 APRIL 1643."

According to the book:
"The Story of the Early Settlers of Stamford, Connecticut, 1641-1700"
"Nicholas sold his land in
Watertown, Massachusetts in 1645,
then moved his family
to Stamford, Connecticut.

"Nicolas Theale lived next to the river on North Street (in Stamford; bridge different and name changed) and so gave his name to the bridge there.

He was a true farmer, judging by his inventory. He owned four oxen, and a full complement of cattle and wine: he had two hives of bees and grew hemp."

Let me quote what was written in
"History of Stamford 1641-1868"
by Rev. E. B. Huntington - page 63.

"Theale, Nicholas, was here (Stamford, CT) in 1650, as appears from land records. He was in Watertown (Mass), in 1638. He was a landholder, and died here (in Stamford, CT) AUGUST 19, 1658.

His will, witnessed by Nicholas Knapp and Joseph Theale, makes bequests to his son Joseph; his daughter Elizabeth, who married, Oct. 27, 1769, William Ratcliff; and his wife. The inventory of his estate, taken Nov. 29, 1658, was proved in court Dec. 16, 1658, by widow "Thell".
Note: Joseph Theale son of Nicholas, made freeman in 1669, (in Stamford), and represented the town five years, between 1670 and 1677, and removed to Bedford, N.Y, in 1687".

(Nicholas died in Stamford, Connecticut).
REF: "Plymouth Colony, it's History and People, 1620-1691, page 38, by Eugene Aubrey Stratton."
