He proudly served his country during World War II, 1946-48 as a staff sergeant medic and the Korean Conflict in 1951 with a medical detachment. His medical career began at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN from 1962-1974. In 1975 he moved to Northwest Arkansas and subsequently owned a private practice for Rheumatology in Fayetteville from 1976 to 1986. He retired and moved to town in 1986.
He was a private pilot and loved golf, fishing, travel and listening to classical music.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his second wife Patricia Alice Sones (Lucy).
Don is survived by his sister, Ms. Jean Mill, his brother; William Barnes Martin; his first wife, Edith Maria Mayo; his son, Allen Graham Sones and wife Ellen of Waverly, Minnesota; one daughter, Alice McKee and her husband Dave of West Fork, Arkansas and six grandchildren, William Maxwell McKee, Joseph Tyler McKee, Marya Jean McKee, Carl Allen Sones, Aaron Graham Sones, Olivia Louise Sones.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks Sunday, July 12th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
