April 16, 1921, the death angel visited and took unto God one of our oldest citizens, Solomon Shanks. Mr. Shanks was one of Bollinger County's oldest and most public spirited citizens, always glad and ready to help as far as he could, any cause for the good of his country. He was a veteran of the Civil War and served all during that war and cast his first vote for Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Shanks was the father of eleven children, of whom eight are living, John Shanks of Olds, Canada and Finis Shanks of Madison,Kan. All the rest were with him in the hour of his passing on, and one great grandchild. He was the grandfather of 49 children and great grandfather of 14. He was born in Bollinger Co., June 9, 1835, and was 85 years, 10 months and 7 days of age. We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the kindness and help in the illness and death of our husband and father. All were very kind.--The Family
