Funeral service for Laurence J. Schafer, a wheat farmer in the Ritzville area all his life, were held Mondy at the Zion Congreational church. Rev. R. W. Reiger officated and Cremation followed. Pallbearers were John Rowe, Clinton Rowe, Donald Danekas, William Schillinger, Homer Kennedy and Clarence Heimbigner. Schafer, 53, died Thursday in Seattle after a lingering illness.

He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Schafer, Sr. in Ritzville on July 2, 1908. He attended the Ritzville high schools and was active in basketball and basball during his high school years in 1928 & 1929. Schafer farmed nine miles northwest of Ritzviller near Packard for many years..

He married Alma M. Thom on Oct, 1933 in Ritzvile. Surviving besides his wife at the home; six brothers, Henry L. Nick, Louis, Ben and Dan Schafer and Ted Stuhr, all of Ritzville, four sisters Mrs. Anne Schafer of Ritzville, Miss Nora Stuhr and Mrs. Marie Creel of Seattle and Mrs. Allice William of Spokane; and may nieces and nephews.
