Elizabeth Reynolds was born to a Quaker family in 1813. Her parents were Henry Reynolds and Mary Coppock Reynolds, both descendants of early Quakers in the colonies. Elizabeth married John Gray about 1830 based on the age of her first born child, Sarah, born in 1832. She was the mother of another child born in Maryland (Zachariah in 1834) and four more born Virginia (John Thomas in 1839, Joseph in c. 1840, Charles in 1842 and Elizabeth in c. 1843). Elizabeth's first husband John was killed in Jefferson County, Virginia (now a part of West Virginia) in 1845. Elizabeth is remarried to John Riley in the 1850 US census for Cecil CO, MD and is now the mother of George, an 8 month old born in MD. She has more children with John Riley also born in MD (Caroline in 1852, Kennard in 1853 and Barkley in 1856) all appearing in the 1860 US census for Cecil CO, MD. In 1870, Elizabeth is no longer listed in the family and noticing there is a housekeeper, daughter Carrie (Caroline), age 19, we can presume that Elizabeth was deceased. All these pieces add to the likely confirmation that the Elizabeth Riley listed as interred in Eastland Friends Burial Ground is indeed this Elizabeth Reynolds Gray Riley.
