Jane Rust Monroe Reynolds died October 25, 2008 in Rockville, Maryland. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Hampton, Virginia on January 12, 1924, daughter of the late Judd Aldrich Monroe and the late Mary Donnan Gayle Monroe. She married the late Bruce Dodson Reynolds, Jr. on December 2, 1944. They had five children, Bruce Dodson Reynolds, III and his wife Ellen, Mary Gayle Reynolds Holden and her husband Peter, Katharine Grason Reynolds Sahr and her husband Gary, deceased, Ginger Monroe Reynolds Easley and her husband Al, and Jane Brumfield Reynolds Gilbert and her husband Bill.

Mrs. Reynolds was a graduate of Hampton High School and Madison College, where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. She taught school for over 30 years in Pittsylvania County and in New Orleans. She retired from Chatham Elementary School in 1988. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and several bridge clubs. She had been a Girl Scout as a child and was a leader when her daughters were in Scouts. She was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chatham and had served as treasurer of the Episcopal Church Women. During her retirement, she enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with friends, and visiting with her children; ten grandchildren, Kevin Christopher Easley and his wife Olivia, William Lloyd Ashley, IV and his wife Suzanne, Katharine Gayle Easley Bray and her husband Jayson, David Monroe Ashley and his wife Diane, Katharine Donnan Sahr Chmiel and her husband Paul, Judd Monroe Sahr, Sarah Gayle Ballagh Connell and her husband Wes, Peter Reynolds Holden, Robert Hamilton Ballagh, IV, Benjamin Willson Holden; and her 7 great-grandchildren: Julia Gayle Ashley, Cecilia Francis Ashley, Brooke Elizabeth Ashley, William Lloyd Ashley, V, Katharine Crickette Ly Chmiel, Natalie Grace Easley, and Caroline Elise Easley.

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Mom passed away surrounded by her family. She lived in love and died in peace. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was the greatest mother in the world. In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting donations be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chatham, Virginia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday October 28, 2008 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Ruef officiating, burial will be in the Chatham Burial Park.
