James M.M. Price was born in 1868 in Florence, Alabama. He was the youngest son of Colonel Caswell Price and Mary Ann Adams Price. Colonel Caswell Price was a veteran of the Civil War, having served with Company C. 27th Alabama Infantry.
James M.M. Price lost both of his parents before he was 10 years old. The then moved into the home of his older brother David Martin Price. At the age of 17 he came to Texas and worked for John Arp of the Latch Community in Upshur County, Texas. For his work plus board and laundry, James was paid $5 a month. On this meager salary he saved enough money in one year to buy a horse. He came to the Perryville Community in 1890.
In 1891, James married Victoria E.M.Smith, the daughter of Jonathan W. Smith and and Rebecca Wyatt Smith who lived near Henderson, Texas. Rebecca was a close friend of General Sam Houston, having attended any social events with him.
In the early years of their marriage, James Price earned a living by hauling logs to the Stamps Sawmill in Wallingville, which later became a part of Perrville. James used 3 and 4 teams of oxen to haul the logs. He later became a prosperous farmer in the Perryville Community and also operated a cotton gin. Twelve children were born to James M.M.Price and his wife Victoria E.M. Price.
1. J. F. Price born near the Lawrence Sawmill in Perryville; he married (1) Stella Johnson; (2) Jane Steel.
2. William D. Price, married Maude Clark of Gilmer, Texas.
3. Walter C. Price, married (1) Clara Bradly of Perryville;(2)Zelma Thomas; Walter and Zelma buried in Perryville too.
4. Charles L. Price, married Hazel Browning of the Stout Community.
5. Daisy R. Price, married (1)Tower Lemmond;(2)W.J.Turner.
6.James M.M. Price Jr. married Martha Bonner of Corsicana, Texas.
7. Ivey S. Price married (1) Faye Sisk;(2)Jewel Caldwell.
8.Rosa C. Price; married Herman Gilbreath of the Stout Community.
9. Louie E. Price, married Doctor C.M. Gregg of Athens Tx.
10. Paralee Price; a former Major in the Air Force Reserves and presently a counselor in the Corpus Christi Public Schools.
James M.M. Price helped to organize and was a charter member of the Woodman of the World Lodge at Perryville. He and his wife, Victoria E.M.Price were actively involved in the civic and religious affairs of the Perryville Community. They were members of the County Line Baptist Church which later became the Perryville Baptist Church.
Victoria E.M.Price died i 1940; James M.M.Price lived until 1966; being over 98 years old when he died. Both of them and some of their children are buried in the Perryville Cemetery in Perryville, Texas.
