He was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Pickering, of Redcar, husband of Teresa Pickering, of 52 High Street, Coatham, Redcar, Yorkshire. He was a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery, 6th Siege Battery. He had been admitted to Chester Royal Infirmary on the 8th February, suffering from general septicaemia. He died at the Chester Royal Infirmary from wounds aged 36 yrs. His funeral cortege left the infirmary, his coffin draped with the Union Jack and wreaths. The band of the Cheshire Regiment played the 'Dead March.' He was buried on the 24th July 1915 with full military honours. Eight gunners of the Field Artillery acted as bearers. At the graveside the buglers of the Cheshire Regiment sounded the 'Last Post.' Three volleys were fired over the grave. He left a widow and one child.
