Elihu Peters was born January 27, 1826, in Ross County, Ohio. He removed with his parents to Tippecanoe County, Indiana, in October, 1828, being 18 months old. These were in the early days of the settlement of Indiana. And when everything was new and rude and life simple, and all were more on equality and gladly shared with each other in the meager privileges they enjoyed. His school privileges were very limited, attending only about two months of public school in his life. On October 4, 1849, at the age of 24 years, he was married to Caroline Armstrong, a native of Ohio, and daughter of John and Mary Armstrong. She was an invalid the greater part of her married life, and received the most kind and tender care from her devoted husband and children until her death about 15 years ago. To this union were born seven children, five of whom survive. They are Allen F, John W., Ferris P., Melvin W., and Addie. Mr. Peters was always been a hard working, industrious man, honest straight-forward and respected as a good citizen, a kind and obliging neighbor. He has been a member of the M. E. church for about 50 years. He departed this life at his home in Stockwell, Jan. 5, 1900, being 73 years of age. Thus another pioneer has been removed from our midst. But his influence as an upright honest man remains, and his work will follow. His mortal remains were laid to rest in Salem cemetery on Sunday, but his spirit returns to God who gave it. (Mrs. John M. Bryant, Stockwell, Ind.)
