Emil Fredrick Naschinski was a son of William and Augusta L. Sokolis Naschinski. He married Mildred Elton Hart on January 14, 1944 in Springfield; she died in 2001.

He graduated from Lanphier High School in 1937; attended Brown’s Business College from 1939-1941; and later, he attended Springfield College in Illinois for two years.

Emil served in the United States Marine Corps from 1941-1945 and received photographic training at the Naval School of Photography and Fairchild Aviation. He was stationed in the South Pacific for fourteen months with Marine Photographic Squadron VMD-154 and flew 52 combat missions as an aerial photographer and waist gunner. Honorably discharged as a Master Technical Sergeant, he received: a Presidential Unit Citation for the capture and defense of Guadalcanal, a letter of commendation from Adm. Halsey, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, the American Theatre Ribbon, Honorable Service Button, and the Marine Corps Discharge Button.

He retired in 1982 from the US Postal Service where he served in Rochester as Postmaster. He was a member of South Side Christian Church, American Postal Workers Union, Springfield Post Office Sunset Club, LaFore Locke Post 755 VFW, Springfield Post No. 32 American Legion, Marine Corps Aerial Reconnaissance Association; and in September 2004, he was elected Commander of USMC Squadron VMD-154 Association.

Survivors: son, Emil W. (wife, Charlotte) Naschinski of Darnestown, MD; daughter, Susan J. (husband, Michael) Monaghan of Springfield; three grandchildren, Emily, Teresa, and Matthew Monaghan; three brothers, William E. Naschinski of Springfield, Daniel E. Naschinski of Hawthorne, CA, and Albert H. Nash of the Chicago area; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
