Excerpt -- Silas M. Maatheny died September 5, at the home of his son, W. I. Matheny of Kingwood. He was born April 21, 1848, near Rockville. He was the son of Isaiah and Elizabeth Matheny. He was twice married, his first marriage December 24, 1868, to Mary A. King daughter of Albert and Hester King, of Laurel Run. His second marriage was November, 1907, to Molly Spiker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Spiker, of Centenary. Both have preceded him to the great beyond.

To the first union was born eight children, five girls and three boys; A. F. Matheny of Laurel Run; Mrs. Bell Cupp of Morgantown; W.I. Matheny of Kingwood; Mrs. Edith Wolfe of Valley Point; Mrs. Bessie Garner and E. E. Matheny of McKeesport, Pa.' and two daughters, Mrs. Annie Benson and Mrs. Sallie Forman are deceased. He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. He became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in his early boyhood days and remained a member until his death.

Services were held at the home of W. I. Matheny after which the remains were taken to Laurel Run church where awaited a large congregation of relatives and friends to show a tribute of respect to one they held in highest esteem. Funeral was concuted by Rev. S. E. Ryan, of the Brandonville charge, assisted by Rev. Jeremiah Thomas and Rev. Asie Estle of the Brandonville charge. Interment was made in the Fairview Cemetery.
