Emil L. Lukes, age 79, a resident of the Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, formerly
of 1902 Michigan Ave., Manitowoc, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Holy Family
Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 1998, at Holy Innocents
Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be
Rev. Mathew Simonar with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659.
He was born December 5, 1918, in Manitowoc, son of the late Emil W. and Rose
Melziva Lukes. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class
of 1937. Emil was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Staff Sergeant
from 1939 to 1945. On July 27, 1946, he married the former Rita F. Schleis at
Norman, Wis. Emil was employed as an electrician at Manitowoc Public Utilities
from 1946 until his retirement in 1981. He was an active 50 year member of Eagles
Aerie #706 and V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659.
Survivors include his wife, Rita, Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law,
Patricia and Dennis Christoffel, Cedarburg, Wis., Jean and James Schwoerer,
Manitowoc; four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Irene Lukes, Fairlawn,
Ohio, Thoms and Janet Lukes, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Stephen and Shirwil Lukes,
Madison, Gerald and Barbara Lukes, Trevor, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Andrea and
Ben Christoffel, Adam, Amber and Jacob Schwoerer, Matthew and Tina Lukes, Kyle
Lukes, McKinley and Denali Lukes, and Jessica Lukes; one sister-in-law, Romelda
Lukes, Manitowoc. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Clarence Lukes;
and one sister, Marcella Lukes Ozga.
Friends may call at Holy Innocents Catholic Church from 9 a.m. Monday until the
time of service at 11 a.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral
