William P. Long was born in New York in 1845. During the Civil War he enlisted as a private at Rochester, New York, January 4, 1864, and was mustered into Company B, 24th New York Cavalry, on January 7. Private Long was wounded in action at Petersburg, Virginia, June 17, 1864, and transferred to Company H, 1st New York Provisional Cavalry. Private Long was mustered out at Cloud's Mill, Virginia, July 19, 1865. William appears on the membership roster of Bisbee's Kehoe Post, Grand Army of the Republic in 1886. Bio contributed by Steve
