Bernard L. Korty, one of the oldest citizens of Tippecanoe county, died at midnight last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John T. Hatke, 517 North Tenth street, of a complication of diseases. He had been in a feeble condition for some time. He was born at Wesuee [Wesuwe], Hanover, Germany, March 10, 1826, and celebrated his 91st birthday a week ago last Saturday. Mr. Korty came to this county with his father, brother and sister in 1849. He located north of the city and farmed the land known as the McMullan farm. Mr. Korty was united in marriage with Miss Gertrude Kirchoff in 1855. She died a number of years ago. Mr. Korty resided for ten years on a farm near Buck Creek and then purchased a farm just east of the city on the Burlington road. He retired in 1890 and has since been making his home with his daughter. Deceased was an earnest member of St. Boniface church, being one of the organizers of the church, and also of the St. Boniface Men's society. He was a man of deep religious convictions and in his younger years was one of the staunchest workers for the church. He was liberal in his donations and was a splendid citizen. Mr. Korty was well and favorable known throughout Tippecanoe county and died rich in the respect of all who knew him. The following children survive: Mrs. Mary Schrader, of this city; J.H. Korty, of Kansas City, Mo., and A.B. Korty, Mrs. Anna S. Hatke, Mrs. Elizabeth Hatke, and Herman L. Korty, all of this city. He also leaves twenty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from St. Boniface church at 9 o'clock Saturday morning with the interment in St. Joseph's cemetery.
