"Sir John Hope, Baronet [S 1628] of Pinkie, brother of the half blood and heir being son of the 9th Baronet, by his 2nd wife. He was born 13 April 1781 at Pinkie House; succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1801; Lieut.-Col. Commandant of the Midlothian Yeomanry Cavalry 1843. M.P. for Edinburgh (three Parliaments) 1845 till death. Vice Lieut. and Convenor of that county. He married 17 June 1805, at Ballindean, co. Perth, Anne, daughter of Sir John Wedderburn by his 2nd wife Alicia, daughter of James Dundas of Dundas. He died 5 June 1853 in his 73rd year, in Gloucester Terrace, Hyde Park. His widow died 17 March 1867, at Cadogan Place."
