Visitation will be at Brooks South Town Chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. His funeral will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the chapel.
Leon was born January 24, 1921 in Patterson, Iowa to William Earl and Mary Anita (Bruett) Hardy.
He served six years in the Army during WWII and was a prisoner of war for two of those years.
Leon retired from Des Moines Public Schools in 1987.
Leon is survived by his son, Michael (Sara) Hardy; six grandchildren: David (Jennifer) Hardy, Kindra Sandy, Michelle (Troy) Smith, Danial Hardy, Chris (April) Hardy, and Lydia (Chad) Gabriel; 13 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; wife Virginia in 2006; and his son David in 2000.
