According to Joshua Gregg, JOHN NELSON GREGG, SR. was killed in Mississippi during the war and is buried in Blacks Chapel Cemetery in Clay County, Alabama, but also has a memorial marker (see in photo) in Liberty Church of Christ Cemetery in Randolph County, Alabama beside the marker for his wife, AMELIA.

There are other reports on public trees on Ancestry.com that say that he died in battle in Tennessee.
