Daniel Givant, 87, of Winterset, died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines.

Graveside services were held Monday, May 22, at the Jewish Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines with military honors provided by the Veterans of Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset.

Daniel was born in Des Moines on June 29, 1929, the son of Abe and Pauline (Fogel) Givant. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and his marriage to Shirley (Patterson) Baker took place on February 22, 1986, in Winterset.

During his working years, Dan sold shoes, worked at Ginsburg Furniture and later worked with Comtron, a movie distribution company. When he married Shirley, the couple owned and managed the Country Haven Guest Home in the old Scott Township School building and they worked together there until 2013.

He was a life-long member of Beth El Jacob Synagogue in Des Moines and he loved to bowl and golf.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Givant; children, Andie “Adriene” (Allen) Black, Cindy (Rick) Arnold, Michelle (Darrell) Farmer, Jim (Dawn) Givant, Susie Givant; step children, Robert (Jolene) Baker, Peggy (Patrick) Schipper, Kathy Roberts; brother, Herman (Sue) Givant; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eddie Givant.
