Born in Townsville, Queensland, to James & Mary Fraser, Hector joined the A.I.F. at Townsville on 9 June 1940.

After training at Miowera and Caloundra, Queensland he was marched in to the 2/26 Battalion in Brisbane, Queensland.

Hector, a member of "F" Force slaved on the Thai Burma Railway, and was admitted to Kanchanaburi F & H Forces No 2 Hospital Camp, where he died as a result of Dysentery.

Originally buried in Grave 085 at Kanchanaburi No 4 Burial Grounds, his body was exhumed after the war and re-interred at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.

He is commemorated in Australia at Townsville, Queensland; The Australian War Memorial and the PoW Memorial Wall at Ballarat, Victoria.
