He was held at Stalag Luft IV and survived the Black March.
He wrote of his experience for his family and it was published in the Friends Journal by the Air Force Museum.
He was instrumental in founding Delaware Chapter No 1 of AXPOW and was its first commander.
He is survived by his wife Lois, a son, two daughters, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
