Norman Fray Crowder was born on September 11, 1908 to Garland Nelson Crowder and Mellvina Wilson Crowder. He joined 2 half brothers: Walter and Oscar and 2 half sisters: Pearl and Stella(Estelle), and three full brothers: Chester, George and Omer. Norman had red hair like his brother Omer.

He married Nedra East on December 24, 1935. He had went on a double date and liked his friend's date a whole lot better than the one he took. His friend's date was named Nedra East. At the end of that date, he told Nedra that he thought she was prettier than the one he had taken out.

Norman and Nedra never had children and spent their early married life living in various different states, finally settling in Wyandotte, Oklahoma.

Norman died on September 17, 1994 in Joplin Missouri, just 3 months shy of their 59th wedding anniversary.
