Dr. Alonzo Collins
Hundreds of former students of Cornell are sorrowing over the passing of Dr. Alonzo Collins, a longtime member of the faculty of that popular institution, in Mount Vernon. He was with it in its infancy and helped to make it what it is today. He was an upright citizen, a man of full stature, esteemed by all who knew him. Two daughters, Mesdames George H. Burge and A.M. Jayne, one brother, Edward Collins of Northwood, Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Addie Gilruth of West Plaines, Missouri, survive. The maiden name of his wife was Miss Chloe Matson, a splendid woman. The Dr. was a quiet but impressive man, the idol of the students in his classes. Of him it can truthfully be said, Sans peur et sans reproche.
